in 1979 by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the framework
of a joint venture was put together within one hour after a visit in
Bordeaux. They purchase a 50-acre ranch, the "River Parcel" in
Oakville, east of Highway 29 et choose a name of Latin origin
"OPUS" for easy recognition in French and English. In 1984, the
1979 and 1980 vintages are simultaneously unveiled as Opus One's first
release...
